Staying married may have long-term benefits. You can elicit much more sympathy from friends over a bad marriage than you ever can from a good divorce. - P. J. O'Rourke

    • Happyhesgone That made me laugh. I love being divorced from him. I like being divorced most of the time. But I'd be very open to remarrying. I realized long ago that I don't hate all men. I couldn't stomach him. It's the person, not the gender. :-) 10 years ago
      • splitter 100% agree. i want to be an a fantastic relationship - whether it's called "marriage" or not. dont hate men at all!!! love ' em. haaa .. 10 years ago
    • KatieA I was happy to be single again after my first divorce. After spending most of my adult life making my own decisions, the endless discussions and compromises became very tiresome. I like feeling free. Remember, alone does not need to equal lonely. 10 years ago
    • Danni girl That's how I felt after my first divorce! freedom! but then the loneliness set in after awhile and then I started missing the company.... 10 years ago
    • mwaters I felt completely liberated and free when I first got divorced. That feeling of shackles off was intoxicating. The sheer relief from exiting a bad situation got me giddy. But then, months and years later, the gravity of what went down set in. Now my feelings are utterly mixed. The end of the dream of a family is no small thing. I think it probably takes a lifetime to process. But by all means, girl, enjoy it and revel in those perks! Because, yes, there are definitely perks. When my marriage was ending, my husband asked me how we could incorporate the best aspects of Divorceds into our marriage. It was actually a great idea. He used to get jealous hearing about what a smashing time his divorced friends were having. Incorporating some of the best practices of divorce--co-parenting, baton passing, discrete free time, own identities--into marriage would probably do the institution a dose of good. 9 years ago
