Staying married may have long-term benefits. You can elicit much more sympathy from friends over a bad marriage than you ever can from a good divorce. - P. J. O'Rourke

  • JNorth Curious how to handle gifts around the holidays for my bro and his wife that are splitting up. he's given her everything and is now sleeping on an inflatable matteress so his place is not really 'kid friendly'. Since they live out of state i was thinking of sending the gifts to a relative nearby so he can experience the joy with the kids once they get together. How about holiday cards? I usually create a picture card but I doubt she'd want that since she's cut the whole family out. Should i just address the card to the kids? That seems so aggressive. How should I address them to his ex-wife, it's really not The Smith Family anymore... 10 years ago   *   4 replies
    • SallyAlexis If the gifts are just for the kids, then address them to the kids etc. etc... 10 years ago
    • melisam_1973 Here is what I recently did for my brothers kids who are in a similar situation: I sent all gifts and cards to their grandparents house. That way I know they would get to the kids. 10 years ago
      • Danni girl I think that's the best way to go about it also... the grandparents usually care more about the kids than the drama an will do the right thing... 10 years ago
    • brooklynblue they are still "The Smith Family". my ex and i are split co-parent respectfully and i would hope that friends and family would still address a card to us as "The ______ family". i hate this idea that just because you are divorced you are not a family. ugh. 10 years ago
