Staying married may have long-term benefits. You can elicit much more sympathy from friends over a bad marriage than you ever can from a good divorce. - P. J. O'Rourke

  • JESSEM My boyfriend and I have been dating for 2 1/2 years now and we are both going to uni in September, but he has said that for the past couple of months he hasn't been happy in our relationship and just doesn't feel the same way. I don't know if he just wants to go to uni single but I really don't want to loose him and it's breaking my heart. Any advice would be great thanks. 9 years ago   *   5 replies
    • LITTLEPEA Horrible situation, I feel for you. Have you asked him what he is unhappy with? Has there been anything that looking back now, you see as a turning point in your relationship that lead to this? 9 years ago
      • JESSEM He just feels we don't have the same connection as we used to. We have recently both finished our final exams and they were a really tough time for me, I was always emotional and upset and not wanting to talk about my feelings; that's the only real point I can think of. 9 years ago
    • exhusband As a guy I'm telling you to move on. He's going to cheat on you if you stay together anyway. Sounds like he is one foot out the door anyway. Be open to meeting new people. You're young. 9 years ago
    • LOVEGLOWXO I know it's hard but I would say let go. Uni is an amazing experience and to be in that limbo with a guy when you start will only ruin the good times you can have. You are going to meet great people and create many memories that you won't feel hurt for long. Who knows, once you've both had a crazy first year at uni you could rekindle. But for now, focus on you and what you are going to achieve at uni! 9 years ago
    • metoday2015 I would say that you understand and feel you also need time and space. Don't hold on. The more you do, the more he will move away from you. Find things you enjoy and do them and live life. 2 1/2 years ago he was not in your life and you were ok. You will be ok again. Don't let someone else either define you or be the person responsible for your happiness and growth. Yo are the only person responsible for your happiness so make that your priority. Of course it hurts like hell but ultimately, if he can not support you through a hard time now he will not be able to do it later either. If I were you I would "take a break" or needed now, and give yourself a month of self reflection. He is only perfect in your mind now because we ted to idealize what we can not have. Im sorry you are hurting. 9 years ago
