Staying married may have long-term benefits. You can elicit much more sympathy from friends over a bad marriage than you ever can from a good divorce. - P. J. O'Rourke

  • jimneycrochet my son with with my ex and he just called wanting me to come over…. i am out of town and feel SOOOO guilty. hard to know if it;s justified or if it;s overblown guilt because i feel badly we divorced and he doesn't like it . 9 years ago   *   6 replies
    • ZAGABRO You'll feel bad for awhile, that's perfectly normal. Unless he's being mistreated at his dads, take this time to heal yourself and enjoy some free time :). 9 years ago
      • jimneycrochet I am the father! My ex alienate me completely. So I want to be there anytime I can. 9 years ago
      • ZAGABRO Sorry! Just reverse it then! Regardless if you are the mom or dad, if there is no mistreatment, take time for yourself, it benefits your children 9 years ago
    • CO.J88 I don't think you have anything to feel guiltily for. I think it's natural that there's times he might miss you, but when you next see him it will make your time together even more special. Everyone needs time to themselves, even when they're still in the relationship, so you shouldn't feel bad at all. 9 years ago
    • dadofthree its overblown guilt. get used to this dance. i deal with it all the time. you cant be on call. you keep your schedule and do what you can when you can. talk to your son and explain. he will understand. 9 years ago
    • mwaters The guilt is poison. You could be married, out of town and your son would still be missing you. Just do the best you can. The book The Four Agreements said it so well: do the best you can and don't take anything personally. 9 years ago
